Foreplay is Agora’s on going performance series. The primary intention of Foreplay is to create proximity between the audience and the work of the performer/choreographer.
Foreplay performances are preceded by a carefully prepared dinner situation designed collaboratively by the guest artist and one of Agora Food’s chefs (Agora’s new food platform, that supports 7 chefs in residency). This food experience is the opportunity for the artist to approach his/her work in a new format, re-articulating it into the language of taste and texture.
On Foreplay 29th of August Tian Rotteveel will bring parts of his current research “Hardcore” into Agora.. Elements and principles of what he has being doing in the work will be shared in a concert-like constellation of events in combination, as well as in the collaboration with the different courses of the culinary of Caique Tizzi.
Hardcore started recently departing from ideas and mechanisms of Hardcore music and translate them into body practices and modes of music making. Hardcore having multifarious music styles called like Deepcore, Grindcore, Datacore, Analogcore and so on. Each in their kind functions as an approach to the core of the listener and the materiality in itself. Like Metalcore is something related to the use of metal in instruments, creating a mix of sound and power of metal. Or for instance Datacore, using only raw digital computer data translated into sound to permeate a listener. So the idea becomes possible to semi-literal passing materiality through the body, like metal, data, analogue signals and so on. The research Hardcore could also stand for: “To experience something raw”.
We want to subtract these functions and behavior of hardcore music and reformulated them into bodily practices and modes of music making. Perhaps to learn how to make things raw again?
